Trauma Therapy

Our approach to trauma therapy is structured across three key phases, each addressing the cognitive, emotional, and behavioural impacts of trauma:

Phase 1: Stabilization and Preparation

  • Assessment: Understanding your history and trauma experiences.
  • Lifeline: Mapping out significant life events.
  • Psychoeducation: Educating about trauma and its effects on the brain and body.
  • Normalisation: Helping you recognize that your responses are typical trauma reactions.
  • Cultural Indoctrination: Addressing cultural influences on trauma perceptions.
  • Safety and Stabilisation: Building coping skills to manage distress.
  • Emotional Regulation: Developing strategies to control emotional responses.
  • Behavioural Activation: Encouraging engagement in meaningful activities.

Phase 2: Trauma Processing

Trauma Protocols: Various techniques tailored to your needs, including:

  • Emotional Rescripting and Reprocessing Therapy
  • Imagery Rescripting and Repossessing Therapy
  • Prolonged Exposure Therapy
  • Written Exposure Therapy
  • Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET)
  • STAIRS Narrative Exposure Therapy These protocols help desensitize distressing memories and reprocess traumatic experiences in a safe environment.

Phase 3: Integration and Recovery

Cognitive Restructuring Therapies: These focus on challenging and changing unhelpful beliefs and thoughts resulting from trauma, helping you integrate new, healthier perspectives into your daily life.

Trauma therapy involves “Treatment and Formulation Planning,” which helps determine the appropriate duration of treatment for each individual case. However, this plan remains flexible and adaptable throughout the therapy process, as undiscovered trauma may surface during the course of treatment.
