Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) helps individuals better understand their own and others’ mental states—such as thoughts, feelings, and intentions—which in turn improves emotional regulation and interpersonal functioning. MBT is particularly effective for individuals with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and those who struggle with maintaining stable relationships. The goal of MBT is to foster the ability to “mentalise,” or to reflect on the inner world of oneself and others, thereby promoting greater empathy, self-awareness, and emotional stability.
