At U Matter Counselling, she works from a Transcultural Humanistic Integrative approach, supporting clients within a relational, reflective, and ethically grounded therapeutic space.

About Maryam

Maryam Cheema is an Integrative Psychotherapist and Creative Lead at U Matter Counselling, where she brings together clinical depth, cultural awareness, and creative thinking to support individual and collective wellbeing. With over eighteen years of experience working across England, Europe, and South Asia, Maryam has supported individuals and communities through therapeutic, creative, and educational work. Her psychotherapy practice is shaped by a strong interest in human consciousness and the complex ways culture, identity, migration, faith, and social context influence emotional wellbeing. Maryam offers a warm, thoughtful, and collaborative therapeutic presence. She supports clients to explore questions of identity, belonging, and meaning, while building resilience, insight, and a stronger sense of self.

Experience

Over the past eight years, Maryam has worked extensively as a psychotherapist with adolescents and adults in private practice and organisational settings. Alongside her clinical work, she has facilitated group therapy, psychoeducational workshops, and supervision groups across not-for-profit and private sectors. And is a founder of a mental health initiative Zehnsaaz. She is an Acumen Fellow and an ATSA Fellow, reflecting her commitment to ethical practice, leadership serving the marginalized communities, and continuous professional development.
